Thank you Caitlin for sharing this book with me!! All and all The Memory Keeper's Daughter is well-written with beautiful imagery, symbolism and a few unexpected (and expected) twists and turns. I will say I did struggle with the dialogue - it felt forced at times, especially later in the story. It was also a bit of a roller-coaster of a read where I couldn't put the book down, then grew disinterested, then back to turning page after page. That said I did enjoy the book and would recommend it for good weekend read, curled up on the couch (exactly how I read it.... and bored to tears at work). It looks like the critics agree:Publisher's Weekly:
This neatly structured story is a little too moist with compassion.
Kirkus Reviews:
First-novelist Edwards (stories: The Secrets of a Fire King, 1997) excels at celebrating a quiet wholesomeness but stumbles over her storyline.
Library Journal:
First-time novelist Edwards-author of the short story collection The Secrets of a Fire King - has written a heart - wrenching book, by turns light and dark, literary and suspenseful. A natural for book discussion groups; recommended.
